Is Botox® really poison? Botox® is a purified protein related to clostridium botulinum bacteria. Botox® has been altered and reduced to a stable, sterilized product that is many generations away from its original form. When used correctly, it has proven to be an extremely safe and effective therapy for many medical conditions in addition to its aesthetic use. It is important to note that the exact formulation of Botox® the cosmetic has been used as a medical treatment for the past 21 years with an excellent safety record. All questions are important, but from whose hands the product is delivered may be the most important one of all.
Does it hurt? There is only the slight discomfort of a small needle prick that the majority of patients tolerate without any problem. An ice pack or numbing cream can be applied prior to injection, so feel free to ask if you prefer this.
How long does it last? Botox® lasts between 2 1/2 to 4 months and the results may vary from person to person. The quality of the injection dilution and the expertise of the provider can make a difference.

Fillers
What are fillers made of? Restylane®, Juvederm™ and Perlane® are Hyaluronic Acid, Cosmplast is collagen, and Radiesse® is calcium hydroxite. All of these products are FDA approved and the determination to use one over another is based on the individual and the area being treated. We discuss your options and alternatives at your consultation appointment.
Do they last? All of them are approved by the FDA to last at least 6 months. Because some of them have been proven to have collagen-generating characteristics, the results frequently last longer.
Does it feel or look unnatural in your face? Immediately after injection there is some soreness and irregularity, but at 2 to 3 weeks, the area feels no different than the neighboring tissue that was not injected. If correctly injected, it restores a youthful appearance in aging skin. In younger skin the product can soften areas where muscle action can cause premature creases and depressions.
Does it hurt? It burns slightly and can be uncomfortable. We recommend anesthetic cream be applied prior to the procedure, or occasionally an injectable anesthetic is required for sensitive areas such as the lips.
Where can you put it? The most common areas are the smile lines that extend from the side of your nose to the corners of your mouth, the creases or shadowy depressions that extend downward from the mouth corners, the lips, cheeks, and cheekbone area.
